Today I felt the drowsiest I’ve ever been.
Strangely, I didn’t really need my energy drink today.
I drank it anyway.
When I arrived, someone had left the key exposed outside. Just sitting there. I told the owners immediately. They looked as concerned as I felt. I don’t like the idea of walking into a potential trap.
Luckily it probably wasn’t anything like that.
Most likely someone simply forgot to lock up.
While I was there, one of the owners mentioned something interesting. She said she doesn’t let her daughters drink Starbucks. Apparently there’s been talk about chemicals found in decaf coffee — things like benzene, toluene, and methylene chloride. Substances people usually associate with gasoline or industrial cleaners.
It’s tied to a lawsuit from earlier this year. Starbucks denies it, of course.
Still… hearing things like that makes you think about how easily people trust what they consume every day.
Later I heard something that bothered me more.
My coworkers were making fun of a special needs woman after she left. She’s around thirty. She wasn’t even there anymore.
Even the manager and the owners joined in.
People become very comfortable being cruel when the person they’re laughing at isn’t around to hear it.
After that I left and went to the library like usual.
Something strange I noticed today — a lot of people were walking around without shoes. I don’t know why. It just felt odd seeing it happen so many times in one day.
While I was there, I started looking into the history of the area around my job. That search eventually led me down a rabbit hole about Houston’s Fourth Ward.
I’ve never been there.
But reading about it was interesting. It used to be known as Freedmen’s Town, a community built by formerly enslaved people after the Civil War. Many of the streets were paved by the residents themselves because the city refused to do it.
It’s strange learning how much history exists in places you’ve never even seen.
Sometimes you start researching one thing and end up discovering an entire story that was always there.
While I was exploring things online, I also came across a really nice YouTube channel. The music felt like something I could use as background ambience for the blog. The creator seems pretty unknown, which honestly makes it even better. No copyright.
I finally used the garden club room for a bit. I might have seen Ulna again, but I was mostly focused on touching up the website and getting things closer to how I want.
There’s still a lot more to improve.
Anyway, I’m still tired.
Hopefully tomorrow feels a little less strange.
Kay goodnight.
